If you’re just starting in the emergency medical services field, the first step to take is enrolling in a program for certification. At Mobile Medical Response, we can help you get started with our EMT programs in Saginaw, MI.
Whether you’re just starting out in your new career, making a career change, or looking to advance, one of the hardest parts of getting started is knowing the necessary steps to take. To help with this, we’ve outlined a few things that you need to do before you can enroll in EMT classes.
Do your research on the various programs in the area. We’re just one of many organizations that offer training in the field. You should find a program that fits your learning style and your career goals. As a part of doing your research, reach out to organizations that offer classes to learn more about them. You should be able to get ample information directly from them rather than trying to only read the information provided online. The best way to do this is to either call or email their office.
If your plan is to become an EMT without progressing in the field, most programs will suffice. However, should you plan to advance further and become a paramedic, choose a program that will afford you the opportunity to continue on in the future. Once you’re in a system, it’s easier to continue with that organization in the future.
Make sure you qualify
There are prerequisites that must be met anytime you’re applying for EMT programs. For example, you must have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent in order to be eligible for enrollment in most programs. Ours is no different. If you don’t yet have a high school diploma or GED, it’s important to earn one before applying for a program. Additionally, you must pass math and read competency tests. Familiarize yourself with what it takes to be eligible and do what you need to do to qualify.
Enroll and pay your fees
Once you’ve chosen a program that works best for you, fill out the necessary paperwork and enroll. Enrollment includes paying fees for classes, a uniform, and books. Additional fees can include background checks, drug screening, and others. Fees can sometimes add up to be nearly $2,000, but remember that it’s an investment into your future. What’s more, sho
